Italy regional health authorities expand local medical services and preventive care
Various Italian regional health authorities are implementing new initiatives to strengthen local medical services and preventive care. In Rome, the San Camillo Forlanini hospital reported that a low-dose CT screening program successfully identified 28 lung cancer cases among 939 asymptomatic patients, most of which were at treatable stages.
In Calabria, the Tiberio Evoli hospital has received a new high-generation mammography machine to enhance early breast cancer diagnosis. Similarly, in the Bergamo region, new community health centers (Case di Comunità) have been inaugurated in Albino, Trescore Balneario, and Lovere to bring healthcare closer to residents.
Other regional developments include the inauguration of a new emergency room, dialysis unit, and community hub in Palestrina by ASL Roma 5. In Abruzzo, 37.8 million euros have been allocated to hire personnel for PNRR-funded territorial health structures. Meanwhile, in Molise, a new agreement has been reached to regulate relationships with public and private pharmacies, and in Cosenza, the local health authority (Asp) is introducing new roles, including a Disability Manager, to improve accessibility and rights for people with disabilities.
