Vereniging Eigen Huis seeks new laws for real estate agents
The Vereniging Eigen Huis (VEH) is calling for new statutory regulations for the Dutch housing market following hundreds of complaints regarding real estate agents. Between February 23 and July 7, the organization's reporting point received 921 reports from buyers and sellers citing negative experiences.
Common issues identified in the complaints include conflicts of interest, preferential treatment, and lack of transparency in bidding procedures. Some buyers reported being pressured to increase their offers based on claims of higher competing bids that were not found in subsequent bidding logs.
VEH Director Cindy Kremer stated that current voluntary guidelines provide insufficient protection. The organization is advocating for legally binding rules that include oversight and enforcement, equal access to housing, and the automatic availability of complete bidding logs for all parties involved.
