Vergini Primary School Project Faces Delays and Traffic Concerns

The new primary school planned for the Vergini neighbourhood will not be completed by the 31 August deadline set to allow demolition of the existing school under the PNRR‑funded program. The Movimento 5 Stelle raised concerns that the delay will disrupt continuity of teaching for hundreds of students and create uncertainty for families.

Local assessor Andrea Marchiori defended the project, noting that the new wooden building meets high seismic standards, features energy‑efficient design and a garden, and will replace the old school that had parking and safety problems. Nonetheless, residents worry that the traffic plan—requiring vehicles to enter via Polo Bertelli and exit near the Church of Vergini—will concentrate cars in a residential area, leading to congestion, longer queues, and heightened risk for pedestrians and cyclists.

The municipal council issued a decree ordering demolition of the current school on Via Ventura to meet PNRR commitments, but the unfinished new facility raises doubts about a smooth transition and the overall livability of the neighbourhood.
