Verifactu electronic invoicing system implementation delayed in Spain
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and freelancers in Spain are facing challenges regarding the upcoming Verifactu electronic invoicing system. Although the government postponed the implementation by one year to allow for a smoother transition, software providers and administrative managers warn that many taxpayers are not utilizing this extra time to prepare.
The new system, which creates unalterable records of every invoice for the Tax Agency, will become mandatory on January 1, 2027, for corporate taxpayers and on July 1, 2027, for all others. Experts note a tendency among business owners to delay adaptation until the last minute.
Additionally, users of the e-Fatura system are cautioned that failing to validate invoices can lead to significant financial losses. Specifically, unclassified invoices may be excluded from tax deduction pre-fills. Common errors include failing to link medical expenses to prescriptions or neglecting to verify invoices issued for dependents.
