Veritas launches new vessel to collect plastic in Venice Lagoon
Veritas has launched a new experimental vessel designed to intercept and collect floating plastic and waste in the Venice Lagoon before it disperses. The vessel was built at the company’s shipyard in Sacca San Biagio.
Constructed with a recycled aluminum hull, the boat is equipped with a Stage V thermal engine to minimize environmental impact. It features a specialized conveyor belt system that can be adjusted to intercept waste on the water surface and transfer it to a skip located in the hold.
The initiative is part of the MISP (Experimental Measures for the collection of floating waste in the Venice Lagoon) project, launched by the Distretto delle Alpi Orientali. The project is funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security under the provisions of the Salvamare law.
