Verizon signs $1 billion dark‑fiber deal with Google

Verizon CEO Dan Sullivan announced that the telecom company has secured an agreement with Google valued at more than $1 billion. The pact provides dark‑fiber connectivity for Google's data‑center operations and supports multinationals that need high‑capacity network links. Verizon says the deal is part of a broader effort to build an independent connectivity business and projects billions of dollars in revenue over the coming years, alongside targeted cost‑saving goals of about $9 billion.

The agreement follows Verizon’s 2017 exit from the data‑center market after selling its portfolio to Equinix. Google continues to expand its own AI‑focused data‑center footprint, including recent investments in Kansas City and a planned expansion in North Carolina. The partnership does not involve crypto‑related activities. Neither company has yet issued a formal public announcement confirming the deal.
