Vermont Democrats select Molly Gray and Amanda Janoo in primary elections

In the Vermont Democratic primary, Molly Gray and Amanda Janoo secured nominations for lieutenant governor and governor, respectively.

Molly Gray, a former assistant Vermont attorney general, won the lieutenant governor primary. She will face Republican incumbent John Rodgers in the November general election. Gray’s platform emphasized land-use reforms to address housing shortages and universal primary medical care. She also pledged to protect state interests against federal overreach.

Amanda Janoo, an economist and political newcomer, won the gubernatorial primary with 49% of the vote, narrowly defeating Aly Richards, who received 46%. Janoo ran an anti-establishment campaign, proposing a surcharge on personal income exceeding $500,000 to fund free primary care. Her platform also included new taxes on digital advertising from large technology companies and increased state regulation of artificial intelligence data centers.
