Vermont Governor Phil Scott trails Democrat Amanda Janoo in new poll

A new Green Mountain State Poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center shows Democrat Amanda Janoo in a statistical tie with incumbent Republican Governor Phil Scott. The survey, conducted between September 17 and 21, found Janoo with 49 percent support among likely voters compared to 43 percent for Scott. Due to a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points, pollsters described the results as a statistical tie.

Janoo, who has not previously held elected office, has reportedly increased her support significantly since winning the Democratic primary in August. The poll also indicated that Democrat Molly Gray leads incumbent Lieutenant Governor John Rodgers 54 to 35 percent.

Scott’s campaign manager, Dustin Degree, criticized the poll as a misleading “outlier” and “statistical malpractice,” citing the high number of Democratic participants in the survey. However, political science professor Bert Johnson noted that the methodology appeared to be “honestly conducted,” given the state's partisan demographics.
