Verne, a company owned by Mate Rimac, is set to return 89.7 million euros in public funds following the conclusion of its robotaxi development project. The company has submitted its final request for funds reimbursement to the Central Agency for Financing and Contracting (SAFU) without requesting any additional cost coverage.

The project, previously known as Project 3 Mobility, was part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO) and aimed to develop a fleet of autonomous electric vehicles for Zagreb. While 89.7 million euros were initially paid out as an advance in July 2023, reports indicate that only approximately 8.77 million euros have been justified through documented costs.

SAFU has 60 days to review the submitted documentation and final reports to determine the exact amount that must be returned to the state. The agency will assess the extent to which contractual obligations were met and the eligibility of the reported expenses before making a formal decision.
