Vernika Dunbar charged with manslaughter in death of sister Mackayla Paige

Vernika Dunbar, 38, has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter following the fatal shooting of her sister, reality television personality Mackayla ‘Kash’ Paige, in downtown Oakland.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning near 14th and Harrison streets. According to the Oakland Police Department, the shooting took place during a confrontation involving Paige and another woman. Authorities allege that Dunbar attempted to intervene by trying to pistol-whip the other individual, at which point the firearm discharged and struck Paige.

Paige, 29, was known for her appearances on programs such as ‘Real West Coast Baddies’, ‘Room H8z’, and ‘Young & Reckless’. She was rushed to a medical facility where she was pronounced dead. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed the charges following the investigation into the altercation.
