Vernon, Canada Enforces Stage 3 Water Restrictions to Slash Use by 50%

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has placed the Greater Vernon area under Stage 3 water restrictions. The City of Vernon responded by issuing a directive to cut non‑essential water use and achieve a 50 percent reduction target.

Measures include turning off misting stations at Civic Memorial Park and spray features at Lakeview Park, shutting down water features at several neighbourhood parks, and limiting tree‑watering to reclaimed water only. The city’s Clean Team will shift to a reactive pressure‑washing approach focused on biohazards and graffiti. Irrigation will be restricted to high‑value spaces such as sports fields, while non‑essential parks will temporarily suspend watering. Public pools will remain open, and facilities like Marshall Fields and Department of National Defence grounds will stay operational using reclaimed water.

Officials said, “All residents and businesses are being asked to significantly reduce water use to help the community achieve an overall 50 per cent reduction target,” and added that “Meeting this goal will require shared responsibility, with everyone playing a role in conserving water during ongoing drought conditions.” Amenities may be reactivated during extreme heat events if approved by the Emergency Operations Centre or the RDNO.
