Lumby Mayor Kevin Acton runs in dual municipal and provincial elections

Kevin Acton, the current mayor of the Village of Lumby, is facing scrutiny for running in both the upcoming municipal election on October 17 and the provincial election on October 24. Acton is seeking to retain his mayoral seat while also campaigning to become the MLA for the Vernon-Lumby riding as a candidate for the B.C. Conservatives.

To address concerns regarding the potential cost to residents, Acton stated on social media that he would personally cover the expenses of a mayoral by-election, if one is required, to the extent permitted by law. He emphasized his philosophy of respecting taxpayers and ensuring they are not burdened by the timing of the provincial election.

In response to the situation, incumbent village councillor Randal Ostafichuk has declared his intention to seek the mayor’s seat should a by-election occur. Other councillors, including Geoff Bevan, Sherry Kineshanko, and Lori Mindnich, are expected to be returned to the village council by acclamation.
