Vernon Search and Rescue rescues injured dirt biker near Lavington

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) responded to a 911 call on September 18, 2026, involving an injured dirt biker in the North Okanagan. The rider had crashed at the Bardolph Lake off-road riding area near Lavington and was suspected to have a broken leg.

Because the rider and his partner remained within cell service, VSAR was able to obtain precise GPS coordinates and receive route mapping via text. An eight-person crew, including members of the Advanced Medical Team, was deployed using ATVs, a side-by-side, and a boggan to transport the stretcher.

The team administered medical treatment and splinted the rider's leg before transporting him through trails and roads to an ambulance. VSAR noted that the response time, which took several hours from the initial call, is typical for such rescues as members must mobilize from their primary jobs.
