Salerno: 21-year-old student arrested for terrorism and weapons possession
Italian authorities have arrested a 21-year-old university student in Salerno for possession of weapons and materials intended for terrorist purposes. The arrest was carried out by the Digos and the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police following a search ordered by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office.
The suspect had previously been flagged by AISE for online activities involving the search for training manuals, weapons, explosives preparation, and publications linked to the Islamic State. During the search of his residence and digital devices, investigators seized manuals containing instructions for constructing improvised explosive devices and artisanal explosive mixtures, as well as evidence of his adherence to Islamic radicalism ideology.
Physical weapons seized include two knives, a 50-centimeter machete, and two pistols (a Colt and a Revolver) that appeared to be modified for active use, along with 107 rounds of ammunition. The student, who has prior police records for fraud and illegal weapons possession, was arrested in flagrante and taken to the Fuorni prison.
