Italy seasonal activities: autumn trekking and mountain pass updates

Various regional activities and seasonal transitions are taking place across Italy as autumn progresses. In the Alps, travelers are monitoring mountain passes like Gavia and Stelvio, which face potential closures due to changing weather and increased risks of snow and ice.

Cultural and outdoor tourism remains active through several themed events. In Vallefredda, the ‘Turno di notte’ immersive walking experience re-enacts historical worker paths through forests and mountains. In Umbria, the ‘Cammino dei Borghi Silenti’ offers slow-paced trekking between Tenaglie and Lugnano in Teverina. Other regional highlights include foliage trekking in Valle Staffora near the Malaspina castles, and autumn walks through the chestnut forests of Val Veddasca near Lake Maggiore.

In the Piedmont region, the Langhe area—specifically around Guarene, Neive, and Santo Stefano Belbo—is seeing a shift toward enogastronomic tourism following the harvest. Additionally, local sports continue with events such as the Trail della Barbera in Mongardino.
