Veronica Ivy wins women's amateur golf championships

Veronica Ivy, a transgender athlete previously known as Rachel McKinnon, has secured multiple titles in women's amateur golf following a successful career in track cycling.

In June, Ivy won both the British Columbia Women’s Mid-Amateur and Mid-Master championships at the Chilliwack Golf Club. Recently, Ivy teamed with Nonie Marler and Aram Choi to defend the Inter-Provincial Team title at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Burlington, Ontario.

Ivy's transition to golf follows a career in professional cycling where she won two masters world titles in 2018 and 2019. While the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) updated its policies in 2023 to prohibit transgender women who transitioned after male puberty from competing in women's cycling events, Ivy has found success in golf. Current Canadian policies allow athletes to compete in categories matching their self-declared identity.

Reports note that Ivy's driving distance has reached over 280 yards, a feat achieved by only three players on the LPGA Tour.
