Veronika Aigner to skip para-ski season due to sister's injury

Para-skier Veronika Aigner has decided to skip the upcoming World Cup season and World Championships. The 23-year-old Austrian athlete's decision follows a similar move by her brother, Johannes Aigner.

The hiatus is due to a knee injury sustained by her sister and long-time guide, Elisabeth Aigner. Veronika stated that she does not want to risk the effort of adjusting to a new guide for a single season, only to switch back once Elisabeth recovers. She expressed a desire to focus on returning to competition as a unified team with her sister.

Despite Elisabeth's injury during the Milano Cortina Paralympic Games, Veronika achieved significant success using substitute guides Lilly Sammer and Eric Digruber. During those Games, she secured four gold medals in the downhill, alpine combined, giant slalom, and slalom, as well as a silver medal in the super-G.
