Veronika Varga-Bajusz detained in NKA subsidy investigation
Former state secretary Veronika Varga-Bajusz remains in custody following a criminal investigation into the National Cultural Fund (NKA). The case involves allegations of breach of trust regarding more than 17 billion forints in subsidies. Prosecutors allege that former minister Balázs Hankó and others established a system to distribute funds based on political and electoral criteria. In a letter released by Fidesz, Varga-Bajusz claimed the proceedings are a “political conceptual procedure” and argued that she is being targeted to force testimony against other politicians.
Separately, the first national Digital Civic Circles (DPK) camp in Lakitelek saw controversy regarding its speaker lineup. Former MP Orsolya Ferencz withdrew after being downgraded from a speaker to a guest, a move she claimed was unexpected. DPK organizers countered that she was never invited as a speaker and had insisted on the role despite the program's constraints. Other speakers, including YouTuber Dániel Kurucz, also withdrew from the event.
