Versailles Court of Appeal to re-examine murder charges in Nahel Merzouk case
The Versailles Court of Appeal is scheduled to hold a closed-door hearing on Tuesday, September 29, to re-examine the charges against officer Florian M. The case concerns the 2023 death of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, who was shot during a traffic stop in Nanterre.
The legal proceedings have undergone several shifts. While investigators initially recommended murder charges, the Versailles Court of Appeal had previously reclassified the act as violence resulting in death without intent to kill. However, the Court of Cassation recently annulled that reclassification, reopening the possibility of a murder trial.
