Vertical AI emerges as key growth engine at tech conference
At the Bank of America Private Tech Trailblazers Conference in Palo Alto, industry experts identified vertical AI as the next major growth engine. Unlike general foundation models, vertical AI focuses on specialized technology built around proprietary data, industry-specific workflows, and purpose-built hardware.
This shift targets measurable results in sectors such as healthcare, construction, defense, restaurants, and finance. As foundation models become more interchangeable, competitive advantages are moving toward domain-specific data, vertical integration, and the capital necessary to scale. Companies are increasingly controlling more of the technology stack, ranging from GPU infrastructure to robotics and manufacturing.
John Furrier, an executive analyst at theCUBE Research, noted that specialized intelligence has become a significant trend because intelligence is derived directly from domain-specific data. One notable participant, Bear Robotics Inc., reported having approximately 16,000 autonomous mobile robots in the field and a growing backlog of orders.
