Vertiv opens new data‑center equipment plant in Johor, Malaysia

Vertiv, the U.S.-based supplier of power and cooling systems for data centres, has opened its first Southeast Asian manufacturing facility in Senai, Johor. The 236,000 sq ft plant, which began construction in March 2025, started its first phase operations in May 2026, delivering a coolant distribution unit to a customer. Vertiv says the site will serve AI‑driven, high‑density computing demand across Asia excluding mainland China, covering markets such as Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan.

The Johor plant will produce thermal‑management and power‑infrastructure solutions, including liquid‑cooling units and prefabricated power modules that can cut on‑site deployment time by up to 85 %. Vertiv expects the facility to create hundreds of skilled jobs and reach full operational capacity by 2027. Government officials highlighted fast‑track approvals under the Johor‑Singapore Special Economic Zone, with Mohamad Reduan Zabri noting the plant could be completed within 18 months. Vertiv’s Asia VP Paul Churchill stressed the location’s connectivity, education level and English‑language capability as key reasons for the investment, adding that the move is driven by market proximity rather than de‑risking from China.
