Verucchio to host historic handmade vehicle race

The historic sporting event ‘Verucchio in Caratella’ returns to Verucchio on October 3 and 4. The competition features ‘caratelle’ (locally known as ‘cariùl’), which are self-built vehicles without any propulsion system that rely entirely on gravity to descend slopes.

The race follows a 2.3-kilometer time trial course starting from the via Brocchi junction and ending in front of Acque Salate. The route reaches Villa Verucchio with a gradient of up to 8%. Participants are divided into various categories with different start times, and registration is open to all, including last-minute entries.

Social activities accompany the race, including a party in Piazza Primo Maggio in Villa Verucchio on Saturday night featuring DJ Musso, followed by an awards ceremony and a final lunch on Sunday.
