Memorial Center Srebrenica police summons Bosniak community genocide denial report political pressure

At least 26 current and former employees and collaborators of the Memorial Center Srebrenica were summoned to the local police station in Zvornik on the order of the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bijeljina. The summons were issued a day after the Center presented its annual Report on the Denial of Genocide in Srebrenica.

The Center called the operation the most extensive pressure and intimidation ever directed at its staff, describing it as a political attack on Bosniak returnees, human‑rights defenders and researchers. Bosnian Presidency Chairman Denis Bećirović condemned the action as intimidation, while Republika Srpska Vice‑President Ćamil Duraković demanded an explanation, saying the investigation targets the Bosniak community. The Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina and several victims’ associations also called for domestic and international bodies to examine the legality, justification and proportionality of the interrogations, and warned that personal data of staff may have been illegally extracted and shared with third parties.
