Vesna Slapar wins Julija Award for acting excellence

Actress Vesna Slapar has been awarded the Julija Award for the 2025/2026 season. She received the honor for her performance as Maureen Folan in the production ‘the Beauty Queen of Leenane’ at the Prešerno Theatre Kranj.

The award, named after Julija Primic, is presented by Prešerno Theatre Kranj in collaboration with Gorenjski glas and the Municipality of Kranj. It recognizes a member of the local ensemble whose performance most impressed both the audience and a professional jury during the previous season.

The selection process involved audience voting followed by a final decision from a professional jury consisting of dramaturg Vilma Štritof, journalist Igor Kavčič, and audience representative Barbara Logar. The jury unanimously selected Slapar, noting her ability to balance sharp humor with vulnerability in the black comedy.

The award ceremony is scheduled for September 12 at the Prešerno Theatre Kranj, following the premiere of the new theatrical season.
