Vestas unveils V182-7.2 MW wind turbine to boost energy production
Vestas has unveiled the V182-7.2 MW onshore wind turbine, the latest iteration of its EnVentus platform. The new model features 89-meter blades, which are approximately three meters longer than the previous V172-7.2 MW model.
This larger rotor design is engineered to improve energy production, particularly in regions with low to medium wind speeds. Vestas reports that the turbine can increase annual energy production (AEP) by up to 6% and improve capacity factors by up to 2%. Additionally, the design aims to lower the levelized cost of energy (LCoE) and improve capture prices by up to 3% by generating more power during periods of higher electricity prices.
The technology is expected to debut in Australia at Tilt Renewables’ 288 MW Palmer wind farm currently under construction in South Australia. The release comes as the wind industry seeks to offset recent increases in equipment, labor, and capital costs.
