Veteran Actresses María Valenzuela and María Galiana Discuss Health Challenges and Longevity
Argentine actress María Valenzuela, who turned 70 in June, said she suffers from severe arthritis, a torn rotator cuff and damaged shoulder tendons that limit her daily activities. She described the pain as “terrible,” noting difficulty lifting her arms and even putting on a shirt, and said she may need surgery. Despite the ailments, Valenzuela continues to work, touring the play Viuda e Hijas across Argentina.
Spanish actress María Galiana, aged 91, highlighted a simple Mediterranean diet and ample sleep as key to her vitality. She said she starts each day with a toast, olive oil and tea with milk, and emphasizes early bedtime and long, restful sleep. Galiana remains active in theatre and film, recently appearing in Yo solo quiero irme a Francia and the movie La tía Julia, and is set to receive a lifetime‑achievement award at the Festival Internacional de Teatro Contemporáneo 'Lazarillo'.
