Hong Kong film legend Nansun Shi dies at 75

Nansun Shi, a pioneering Hong Kong film producer and co‑founder of the Film Workshop studio, died on 13 July 2026 at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, aged 75. She had battled immune‑system complications since 2022, which led to recurring infections and multiple‑organ failure. Shi began her career after studying statistics and computing in London, worked in television and at Cinema City, and helped launch the golden age of Hong Kong cinema in the 1980s. She produced landmark films such as *Infernal Affairs*, the *Hero* series and the *Detective Dee* franchise, and was instrumental in bringing Chinese‑language cinema to international markets.

The film community responded with tributes: actor Jackie Chan posted “大阿姐，一路好走”, while Zhen Zidan, Shu Qi and others shared memories of her professionalism and spirit. Long‑time friend actress Lin Ching‑xia wrote, “不捨，不捨，還是得放手…”. Shi’s contributions earned her numerous honors, including a lifetime‑achievement award at the Hong Kong Film Awards and the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
