Veteran Trevor Duniam reflects on Vietnam War trauma

Former soldier Trevor Duniam shared his personal reflections on the trauma of the Vietnam War ahead of Vietnam Veterans' Day. A conscripted mortarman in the Second Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR), Duniam described the profound emotional contrast between the violence of the war and the tranquility of his home in Tasmania.

Duniam recounted the moment the reality of his service returned to him after his homecoming, when he learned via radio that his comrade, Lex Adams, had been killed in an ambush. The account coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, a significant engagement involving the Sixth Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.
