Veterans hold memorial services for September 11 anniversary
Veterans and community members held memorial services on Friday to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
In Rigby, Idaho, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #1004 conducted a ceremony at South Rigby Park. The tribute included a bagpiper playing ‘Amazing Grace’, a rifle salute by an honor guard of former U.S. armed service members, and the striking of a ship's bell eight times to commemorate the lives lost.
In Hopkinsville, Kentucky, VFW Post 1913 hosted a service attended by local citizens. During the event, the VFW awarded $8,000 in grants to various local agencies to support first responders, including the Hopkinsville Fire Department, the Hopkinsville Police Department, and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, as well as numerous volunteer fire departments. The ceremony also highlighted the long-term health impacts on survivors and responders caused by debris from the World Trade Center collapse.
