Veterans seek psychedelic treatments for PTSD and suicide prevention

Veterans are increasingly looking toward psychedelic treatments, such as psilocybin, to address treatment-resistant depression and PTSD. Data from 2024 shows that 870,000 veterans receiving VA health care were diagnosed with PTSD, and nearly 150,000 veterans have died by suicide since the September 11 attacks.

Research into psilocybin has shown promise, with studies indicating significant reductions in depressive symptoms. In some trials for treatment-resistant depression, up to one-third of patients achieved remission. Furthermore, research involving veterans with PTSD found that 75 percent of participants were in remission one month after receiving psilocybin treatment.
