Senate Federal veterinarian dies after dog attack in Brasília

Vitória Valle de Oliveira Pinha, a 36-year-old veterinarian, has died following an attack by a Belgian Malinois at the Brazilian Senate's Cinotecnia Service kennel in Brasília. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, when the dog bit her in the neck, causing severe injuries and a cardiorespiratory arrest.

Pinha, who worked as a contracted professional providing animal care services, was treated by the Fire Department and underwent emergency surgery at the Hospital de Base in the Federal District. Despite medical efforts, she passed away on Saturday, August 22, after four days in intensive care.

The Senate Federal expressed deep regret over her death, noting her dedication and her previous history as an intern at the institution between 2022 and 2024. The Belgian Malinois involved, which is used for security and detection tasks, has been removed from operational duties and placed under observation.

The Civil Police of the Federal District has opened an inquiry to investigate the death as a workplace accident. Authorities are conducting forensic examinations and interviewing witnesses to clarify the circumstances of the attack.
