Veterinarian Jennifer Brenes speaks out after hammer attack in Cartago

Veterinarian Jennifer Brenes Ovando has issued her first public statement following a traumatic hammer attack at her clinic, Alma Vet, in Guadalupe de Cartago. Brenes, who opened the business only a month ago, confirmed she is in stable condition and recovering at home with her family.

In a video message, Brenes expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown by her family, friends, and the College of Veterinary Medicine Professionals. She used the platform to call for an end to violence in the country, stating, “Violence only produces pain.” She also advocated for animal welfare, emphasizing that pet ownership must be an act of both love and responsibility.

Brenes confirmed that a formal complaint against her aggressor has been filed and expressed hope for swift justice. While the legal process continues, the professional community has rallied behind her in response to the assault.
