Veterinary experts arrive in Karachi to treat elephants Madhubala and Malika
A team of international veterinary experts has arrived in Karachi to provide specialized medical care for two African elephants, Madhubala and Malika, at Safari Park. The mission includes a team of Sri Lankan specialists led by Dr. Badika and Dr. Amir Khalil, working alongside experts from the international animal welfare organization Four Paws.
The intervention follows the deteriorating health of Madhubala, who has been undergoing prolonged treatment for tuberculosis. Her condition has led to weakened immunity, bone-related issues, and a foot infection that has hindered her ability to walk. In mid-September, Madhubala suffered a sudden collapse within her enclosure, requiring a crane to lift her.
Medical professionals will conduct comprehensive examinations, including collecting blood samples and performing X-rays, to assess the elephants' health and nutrition. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation stated that all necessary measures are being taken to support the recovery and overall well-being of both animals.
