Veterinary professionals focus on early disease detection

A survey conducted by Boehringer Ingelheim, titled “Ir más allá 2026,” reveals that 96% of veterinarians in Ecuador prioritize detecting hidden health issues in companion animals, such as pain or subclinical diseases. This figure is higher than the global average of 87% for companion animal veterinarians.

In the production animal sector, 77% of Ecuadorian veterinarians emphasized their role in protecting the food chain, compared to 65% of their global counterparts. Globally, 62% of veterinarians working with cattle, pigs, and poultry highlighted sanitary surveillance as a key function to limit disease spread.

The report also notes the invisible aspects of the profession, including emotional labor, compassion, empathy, and the physical and mental exhaustion associated with the role. Professionals also dedicate significant time to scientific research, clinical case analysis, and continuous postgraduate education to maintain high standards of care.
