Veterinary telemedicine expands remote care access for pets

Veterinary telemedicine, a modality regulated by the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine, is expanding access to professional guidance for dogs and cats through digital platforms. These services typically connect pet owners and professionals via video calls, allowing veterinarians to review animal histories and analyze images or information provided by owners.

Rather than replacing traditional clinical visits, online consultations serve as an initial layer of guidance. They are particularly useful for addressing behavioral changes, dietary questions, skin alterations, isolated episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, and monitoring previously diagnosed conditions. This remote approach helps owners decide whether a symptom requires immediate in-person medical attention.
