Kosovo Election Commission expects diaspora vote count to finish by midweek

The Central Election Commission of Kosovo (KQZ) announced that the counting of mail‑in ballots from the diaspora is scheduled to be completed by mid‑week. So far, 85,790 ballot packages have been processed, with 82,809 approved and between 2,844 and 2,981 rejected mainly for missing registration certificates.

During the weekend, 80 of the 223 overseas ballot boxes were opened, covering about 36 % of the parcels. KQZ expects the remaining mail ballots to be verified and counted shortly, after which it will begin tallying votes cast under special conditions and by voters with special needs. Following the full count, the commission may conduct a recount of up to 10 % of regular votes.

Preliminary results show that diaspora ballots have boosted the share of the Vetëvendosje movement, giving it an estimated 44‑53 seats in the 120‑member Assembly, while the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Democratic League of Kosovo and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo each see reduced shares. The final allocation of seats will determine the composition of the next government and the election of the new president.
