Veysi Duyan urges wheat import reforms and retail support in talks with Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek

During a meeting with Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek and Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun, Mardin Chamber of Commerce presidential candidate Veysi Duyan highlighted challenges in the wheat and flour sector. He called for a scientific review of quarantine measures on imported wheat, especially concerning Indian rust and fungal issues, and advocated allowing controlled imports of high‑protein wheat (over 12.5% protein) to aid exporters. Duyan also pressed for the reopening of transit trade routes and greater transparency from the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) on import prices and sales schedules, noting that high Iraqi customs duties hurt Turkish exporters.

In a separate outreach, Duyan visited Mardin’s major shopping centres and met retail managers and shop owners. He discussed inflation‑driven cost pressures, staffing, and inventory challenges, emphasizing the need for coordinated support from the Chamber to sustain the city’s retail economy and employment. The candidate pledged to act as a mediator between retailers, mall operators, and local authorities to strengthen Mardin’s role as a regional commercial hub.
