Vezir Haziraj faces pre-trial detention request for attempted murder
Prosecutors in Peja have requested pre-trial detention for Vezir Haziraj, who is suspected of attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons, and making threats. The incident allegedly occurred on August 7, 2026, in the village of Orroberd, Istog, following a physical altercation. Haziraj is accused of using a modified hunting rifle to shoot D. H., causing life-threatening injuries to the victim's thigh. Additionally, authorities suspect Haziraj possessed an unregistered revolver and posted threatening messages against officials on social media.
In a separate criminal investigation, authorities have dismantled an international organized crime group involved in large-scale marijuana trafficking. Following cooperation between Kosovo and Greek services, a North Macedonian citizen and a Kosovar citizen were detained in Thessaloniki. The operation, known as ‘Vardaris’, led to the seizure of approximately 324 kilograms of marijuana hidden within recycled paper shipments. The investigation revealed a complex logistics chain involving transport through Bulgaria and Greece to facilitate the distribution of narcotics.
