VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Seimen and forward Diehl sidelined with thigh injuries

VfB Stuttgart will be without its newly arrived first‑choice goalkeeper Dennis Seimen and forward Justin Diehl for the start of the season after both suffered thigh muscle injuries in preseason training. Seimen, 20, tore a muscle on the back of his thigh, while Diehl injured the front of his thigh; the club expects both to miss at least until the international break at the end of September. The club said it does not plan to enter the transfer market immediately, opting to rely on backup keeper Fabian Bredlow and the other goalkeepers in the hierarchy (Stefan Drljaca and new signing Marius Funk). Sport director Fabian Wohlgemuth expressed disappointment but noted the squad still has quality in the goalkeeper position. Seimen had returned from a successful loan at SC Paderborn and was set to replace Alexander Nübel, who left after three seasons. Diehl, a young attacking prospect, also faces a lengthy recovery period.
