VfL Bochum implements jumping ban due to stadium issues

VfL Bochum has introduced a ban on synchronized jumping in parts of the Ostkurve at the Ruhrstadion to prevent a ‘trampoline effect’ caused by the aging facility. Failure to comply could lead to the closure of entire fan stands.

The stadium faces several recurring operational challenges. Orange-marked emergency exits must remain unobstructed; if banners cover these gates, matches may be delayed, interrupted, or even canceled. Such incidents have become routine, including a 50-minute delay during a match against Eintracht Frankfurt in March 2025.

Other stadium curiosities include strict rules regarding guest colors in home areas, which can result in denied entry, and technical limitations where away fans are advised to use printed tickets because mobile phones cannot be scanned at certain points.
