PGE Wybrzeża Gdańsk secured a major upset in their first European competition appearance in 25 years, defeating German Bundesliga side VfL Gummersbach 38:34 in the EHF European League opener.
Despite an early 10:5 lead by the Polish side, Gummersbach managed to fight back and took a 19:17 lead into halftime. However, the visitors regained control in the second half, led by Mikołaj Czapliński, who scored eight goals. The Polish team maintained their momentum to secure the victory in front of approximately 3,000 spectators at the SCHWALBE arena.
