VFL players Rhylee West and Bailey Boag find success after demotions

Australian rules footballers Rhylee West and Bailey Boag have both responded to demotions by finding success through stints in the VFL.

Western Bulldogs forward Rhylee West discussed his recent demotion to the VFL following a dip in form after a career-best 2025 season. West noted that the move allowed him to play alongside his younger brother, Levi, and emphasized the importance of resilience, stating, “no one's invincible.” West has since returned to the Bulldogs' lineup, contributing to the team's position in the upcoming elimination final against Adelaide.

Similarly, Tasmania Devils player Bailey Boag has seen a resurgence in form after being omitted from the VFL side in round six. Since returning in round 12, Boag has transitioned from a defensive tagging role to an inside-midfielder, averaging 19.1 disposals and 7.6 tackles. Boag expressed a strong desire to represent Tasmania as the Devils prepare for their semi-final against Essendon.
