VHP leader requests suspension of Director of General Administration salary hike

Asiskumar Gajadien, the parliamentary group leader of the VHP, has submitted an urgent request to President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons to temporarily suspend a planned 15 percent salary increase for the Director of General Administration.

The request aims to prevent the automatic upward adjustment of salaries for the President and other political officeholders. Under current legal frameworks, the President's remuneration is tied to the Director of General Administration's salary, creating a ripple effect across various political positions.

Gajadien is preparing a private member's bill to end this automatic coupling. He proposes that the President's salary be set as a fixed legal amount, independent of adjustments made to other administrative functions. He clarified that his proposal does not target general civil servant raises, but specifically seeks to reform the unique structural link involving the Director of General Administration to ensure greater transparency and fiscal responsibility.
