Via Appia to host Appia Day 2026 cultural events

Appia Day 2026 will feature a series of cultural, environmental, and sporting initiatives along the terminal stretches of the Appia Claudia and Appia Traiana. The program, organized by the “Coordinamento Appia Puglia 2,” involves various municipalities, associations, and cultural entities within the “Appia Regina Viarum” network. This initiative follows the second anniversary of the Via Appia’s inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The main events are scheduled for October 3 and 4, though the program extends from September through October. Activities include guided tours of archaeological sites such as the Crypt of San Biagio and the Muro Tenente area. In Oria, events include a “relic hunt” for children and the presentation of new archaeological research regarding a late antique tomb.

In Brindisi, preparatory events have already taken place, including guided tours focused on “Brundisium in the time of Virgil.” These tours explored the archaeological area of San Pietro degli Schiavoni and Palazzo Guerrieri, highlighting the integration of ancient Roman history with modern urban structures.
