Chile launches multiple health initiatives to improve services and reduce waitlists

The regional government of Magallanes announced the allocation of more than 1.140 billion pesos to cut specialist‑care waiting lists by 20 %, targeting thousands of patients across cardiology, urology and surgical procedures. In the province of Última Esperanza, Hospital Dr. Augusto Essmann Burgos began a tele‑traumatology service that connects local patients with a Santiago‑based specialist via the Hospital Digital platform, aiming to serve about 30 users each month and ease the specialist‑care backlog.

In Concepción, the Red Dávila network and Clínica Biobío, together with the public health service, conducted a mastology outreach that provided over 100 breast‑cancer consultations for 120 patients, identifying 13 cancer cases and facilitating further specialist referrals. Meanwhile, in Valdivia, the Commission Médica de Reclamos (COMERE) and the regional COMPIN held a joint medical‑legal training session to improve the assessment of occupational injury claims, involving physicians and health‑work authorities.

Separately, Viña del Mar mayor Macarena Ripamonti visited Hospital Gustavo Fricke to meet the family of twin infants injured in a traffic accident, pledging municipal assistance with legal, medical and funeral support. These coordinated actions reflect a broad effort by Chilean public and private entities to enhance health‑care access, reduce waiting times, and provide targeted support to vulnerable citizens.
