Via Lietuva to reconstruct Molėtai–Anykščiai road section

The road management company Via Lietuva has announced plans to reconstruct an approximately 8 km stretch of the Molėtai–Anykščiai regional road (No. 119) in the Anykščiai district. The project targets a section in the Skiemonių eldership where the asphalt is worn, road shoulders are deformed, and water drainage is inadequate. In some areas, the driving lane width is as narrow as 2.7 meters.

Preparatory works are being conducted this year, with main reconstruction activities scheduled for next year. The project will include strengthening the earth foundation, updating the water drainage system with new ditches and storm networks, and installing two 3-meter wide paths to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

This initiative is part of a broader national effort to eliminate narrow, substandard regional roads in Lithuania by the end of 2028. Transport Minister Juras Taminskas stated that the goal is to ensure regional roads are safe and convenient rather than obstacles for drivers.
