Via Sacra cultural trail connects Poland, Czech Republic and Germany
Via Sacra is a trans‑border heritage route that links the Lower Silesian region of Poland, the Czech Republic and the Upper Lusatia area of Germany. The trail showcases monuments such as the eight‑century‑old Cistercian St. Marienthal Abbey in Ostritz, historic churches and other sites that have shaped European history.
The project, conceived by Dr Volker Dudeck, aims to promote the shared cultural legacy of the three nations, foster cross‑border tourism and help break lingering Cold‑War stereotypes. A recent conference at St. Marienthal brought together representatives from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany to discuss the trail’s development and its role in education, social and cultural activities across the border region.
