Vialidad Nacional challenges municipal parking fines on Route 40

The National Road Directorate (Vialidad Nacional) has formally ordered the Municipality of San Martín de los Andes to suspend parking fines issued on National Route 40. The agency is demanding that the local government provide legal proof of its authority to monitor, verify, and sanction parking violations on this specific stretch of national highway.

The dispute centers on the urban section of Route 40 that passes through the city, known locally as Avenida San Martín and Calle Villegas. The intervention by the national agency follows numerous inquiries from users regarding the municipal collection of paid parking fees and fines on a route under national jurisdiction. The municipality has been given 72 hours from the receipt of the formal notice to present the legal instruments, such as administrative acts or agreements, that grant them this specific competence.
