Viamão court accepts charges against parents in Oliver Grayson death case

A judge in Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul, has accepted a formal complaint from the Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS) against D’Andre Grayson and Mayanna Angelina Rodgers. The couple faces charges related to the death of their three-year-old son, Oliver Grayson, who died in July following severe physical assaults.

D’Andre Grayson, a 33-year-old American missionary, is charged with qualified intentional homicide and torture. The prosecution alleges he struck the child and slammed his head against the floor because the boy failed to respond to a “good morning.” The charges include aggravating factors such as the use of cruel means, the victim's inability to defend himself, and the fact that the victim was under 14 years old.

Mayanna Angelina Rodgers has been charged with torture by omission regarding their four other children. The investigation suggests she witnessed the violence and failed to intervene, violating her legal duty to protect them. While the mother was initially considered for homicide charges, the current indictment from the MPRS excludes homicide by omission for her, focusing instead on the torture charges. Both parents remain in preventive detention.
