ViaMobilidade faces potential R$ 4 million fine after train derailments
The São Paulo State Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTESP) has demanded urgent explanations from the concessionaire ViaMobilidade following two consecutive train derailments on the Linha 8 - Diamante. The incidents occurred on consecutive days near the Júlio Prestes station and between the Comandante Sampaio and Osasco stations.
ARTESP has requested a comprehensive technical report detailing the causes of the incidents and the preventive safety measures to be implemented. The regulatory agency stated it will conduct a rigorous analysis of the documentation and may initiate a sanctioning process, which could result in fines ranging from R$ 40,000 to R$ 4 million.
During the first incident near Júlio Prestes, the train was reportedly out of service and moving at low speed without passengers. In the second incident near Osasco, passengers had to disembark onto the tracks and walk along the line to exit the train. No injuries were reported in either event.
